I think of Hespect as an innovation workshop. I don’t think much about other freelancers or contract agencies as competitors, we pursue the clients and ideas that interest us and invest ourselves in making them successful.
Hespect Softwares is unique in outlook but fairly traditional in structure. We have a main office, but as so many are doing, our team primarily works remotely. We fully embrace the gig economy, so all of my team are independent contractors. As Owner and Principal Consultant, I am intimately involved in every project from Architecture to Quality Assurance.
We believe that our focus on helping our clients achieve their vision is a superior approach. We are selective in choosing our clients because we believe in partnerships, ideals, and alignment.
Nebraska Realty asked us to build a system to help their accountants to manage their data entry and reporting workflows. The system we built, with the glorious name of 'The Accounting System', allows office staff to enter all of the financial details of a sale, and it applies multiple rules and incentive programs to calculate agent commissions and profit-sharing. Using http://holistics.io we built dashboards for both Agents and Executives. Future plans include integration with the ACH feed to their bank, and integration with Quickbooks, and the MLS system.
After the successful rollout of the Pallet Load Management system, Blue Ridge Pallet asked us to help solve a problem they were having with the system they used to count and track pallet production. They were unhappy with the vendor of the barcode reader and tracking system they had in place. The hardware was susceptible to failure due to the dusty nature of the production flow, and the vendor was unresponsive. BRP identified a hardware solution, a reader from Keyence Corporation, and engaged us to build an application to count the barcoded pallets on the production line. BRP pays their production works based on units produced, with bonuses and other rewards, and BRP wanted to make that program more effective and more fun for the team, so they installed a large monitor on the floor with growing bar charts for each production table. Throughout the day, team members now compete with each other to reach daily goals. Pallet production has increased, leading to revenue growth for the company and also record levels of employee bonus payout.
Milestone is an Alexa skill for tracking hours worked on tasks and projects. Using simple voice commands, you can enter blocks of time, or use work timers, to track billable hours. It also features a web portal at MilestoneTime.com where users can review and download their time records. In 2020 we completed integration with Clio, the leading platform for Law Office management; and in 2021 we will be integrating with Harvest.
Blue Ridge Pallet is a recycler of shipping pallets in central Virginia. They operate a just-in-time production process to deliver millions of units to their customers every year. Over time they had evolved a complex system of interlocking Google Sheets to track orders, production volume, and driver dispatch. It was intricate but fragile and required constant support. So, BRP engaged us to create an end-to-end system for tracking their production and delivery processes. The Pallet Load Management System allows customers such as Target and Hershey to directly enter orders for trailers of pallets. The orders direct the production teams to build the specific types and quantities, and the dispatch sub-system assigns drivers and trailers to specific dock doors for loading. Drivers are assigned multi-stage routes for both the delivery of fresh pallets and the pickup of empty trailers and used pallets for recycling. The efficiencies gained with the new system have allowed BRP to thrive despite the loss of critical management and production staff members during the COVID crisis. In 2021 BRP hopes to bring the PLM system to market as a SaaS service for other Pallet recyclers.
We have partnered with Wine Glass Marketing of Napa California to build WGITS-QB, a desktop utility for bringing transactions out of Direct-To-Consumer platforms and into local Quickbooks Desktop installations. WG works with many wineries to assist them with their DTC marketing on platforms such as WineDirect, Commerce7, and VineSpring. WGITS-QB uses a spoke-and-hub design to integrate 5 source e-commerce platforms. Customers can define complex mapping and filtering rules for transforming orders and refunds into QB transactions. We are now working on support for Reckon, an accounting platform based on Quickbooks used primarily in Australia and New Zealand.
The PALIDIN desktop application works with high-resolution multi-band scanners to analyze and detect identity cards (driver's license, passport). PALIDIN stores, formats, and reports on the document analysis, and with the Enterprise Edition we have global connectivity for fraud detection using the FF Web Portal. The FraudFighter system has evolved to include the windows desktop application, a web-based remote utility, native device apps, and a SaaS integration service. We have also expanded to the European market and have replicated our entire architecture on EU servers to offer full PII isolation for global customers.
For Nature Hills we expanded their existing ERP system to add complex order lifecycle management. A typical Nature Hills customer might place an order for shrubbery in the winter, for delivery in the spring. During that wait period, they often make changes to the order. Nature Hills manages a complex timing of greenhouse plantings and shipments to northern states, and order estimated delivery dates.
The Mister Bartender Skill for Alexa lets users search for cocktail recipes by name or by a combination of ingredients. It can give a step-by-step walk-through to make each drink. On devices with a display, it uses a rich APL based interface.
We had a chance to work on a special effects package for Metallica's recent World Tour. We developed an application in Unity that would, in real-time, overlay 3-D animated graphics over the faces of the members of the band. Unfortunately, the band had some technical difficulties while preparing for the tour, and decided to go with a much leaner show. While our project was seen on-stage by the band during rehearsals in Mexico City, we were cut from the lineup at the last minute.
Kona HIlls is a coffee producer in Hawaii. We built an ERP system for tracking the production of coffee beans starting with the purchase of cherries from the growers. The system allowed buyers to enter tonnage, quality metrics, and price paid to the grower, this caused a payment to be tracked into their Quickbooks system. Through the multi-step coffee production process, the ERP system tracked quality and weight data, allowing powerful BI analysis of productivity and coffee quality.
